[IMG alt="(FILES) In this file photo taken on November 26, 2020 US President Donald Trump speaks to reporters after participating in a Thanksgiving teleconference with members of the United States Military, at the White House in Washington, DC. - Former president Donald Trump hailed the sale of Twitter to the sane hands of tech billionaire Elon Musk in a statement that notably didn't commit to rejoining the platform. Trump's campaign team for the 2024 presidential race is reportedly lobbying Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, to reopen the controversial president's accounts. Elon Musk has already given Trump back control of his Twitter account, after buying the platform last year. Donald Trump was kicked off of the three major social networks after he used Twitter to egg on rioters during an insurrection at the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021. In an interview with Fox News Digital yesterday, the former president said his campaign had contacted Meta. Trump said: "We are talking to them, and we'll see how it all works out. "If they took us back, it would help them greatly, and that's okay with me. But they need us more than we need them." In a letter to Meta seen by NBC, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung reportedly said Facebook is 'an important tool for the 2024 campaign to reach voters. Cheung wrote: "We believe that the ban on President Trump's account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse." In a tweet yesterday, Twitter CEO Elon Musk shared his (unsupported) view that the current US president Joe Biden could turn on the platform if Trump returns. Musk wrote: "Will be interesting to see how the Biden administration reacts to this. "They may try to [weaponize] Federal agencies against Twitter." A number of Trump's tweets have been used in an inquiry as evidence that he used the platform to 'incite' violence among followers who falsely claimed the 2020 election had been rigged.
