Bayelsa State Vigilante Service has arrested one Freeborn Newton Ogelle, a tricycle driver who hails from Opuama in Southern Ijaw LGA, over alleged involvement in armed robbery. Ogelle and three other suspects armed with guns were robbing innocent victims in different locations within Yenagoa metropolis when they were exposed on Thursday night, January 20. Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, said information came through an anonymous phone call that a four-man gang inside a tricycle are robbing innocent victims at different locations around Kpansia area. "Our men led by the Secretary of the State Vigilante Service, Hon. Innocent Kalaingo, immediately swung into action and traced the tricycle along Yenezue-gene road off Mbiama-Yenagoa expressway," he stated. "Immediately they sighted us at the INEC junction, they drove off with speed, and on getting to Kpansia school field they jumped out from the tricycle and ran into the Epie creek with their arms, while some of our men were still chasing them. Meanwhile the tricycle rider was caught along Okaka road." According to Hon. Kalaingo, who led the special squad of the state vigilante service for the operation, the other three boys jumped out of the tricycle were armed with guns, carrying bags and phones along with them. The rider and his tricycle has been handed over to the Ekeki Division of the Bayelsa State Command. Alagba thanked the informant who called the phone line of the outfit as at the time of the robbery to give them a tip that made the outfit swing into action immediately. He urged members of the public to always assist the security agency by giving informations that will help curb crime and criminality in the state.
