The Apple iPhone 14 is nearly on the way - but it's only been a year since the iPhone 13 came out (Image: Bloomberg via Getty Images)
Just as Christmas seems to come round faster every year, so too does the new iPhone.
Apple has released a new iPhone every year since the launch the first iPhone in 2007.
Usually taking place in the Autumn, these Apple 'Special Events' see the company's CEO take to the stage and reveal the company's latest flagship smartphone.
This year looks no different, and with the launch of iOS 16 on the way, we already know a lot about what Apple's latest software is going to look and feel like.
As usual, though, the tech giant has kept its latest hardware under wraps, meaning details about the new iPhone 14 are still thin on the ground. Here's everything we know so far.
When is the iPhone 14 release date?
Apple typically holds its iPhone launch events in the second or third week of September, usually on a Tuesday.Apparently, the tech giant has already recorded its keynote, which could also feature major new announcements on the Apple Mixed Reality Headset, the AirPods Pro 2, new Apple Watches, and of course, the iPhone 14.
This could mean this year's Apple Event is held in a very similar format to the one in 2021.
According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is aiming to hold a launch on September 7 and a release on September 16.
He said: "The company intends to stream the event online—rather than holding an in-person gathering—continuing an approach it adopted at the start of the pandemic. Apple launches are highly polished affairs, and employees have already begun recording the presentation's segments over the past few weeks."
How much will the iPhone 14 cost?
Last year, Apple notably didn't increase the price of the base iPhone 13 model, despite supply chain issues and chipset shortages.According to rumours from a Korean Apple insider, Apple will keep the price of the iPhone 14 frozen again this year.
That means that the base iPhone 14 would cost £799 ($799) to customers, although these rumours have not been confirmed.
It's unclear whether or not Apple plans to change the pricing of its more premium models, such as if it releases iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max models.
Will there be an Apple iPhone 14 Pro?
On that point, it seems that Apple is once again set to release some high-end Pro and Pro Max models when it launches the iPhone 14.According to MacRumors, a reliable Apple fan site, Apple plans to release:
- a 6.1 inch iPhone 14
- a 6.1 inch iPhone 14 Pro
- a 6.7 inch iPhone 14 Max
- a 6.7 inch iPhone 14 Pro Max
What colours will the iPhone 14 come in?
Apple seems to add more new colours than features to its iPhone lineup every year.Last year's iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini came in six colours, namely green, 'starlight', 'midnight', blue, and pink. Meanwhile, the Pro and Max models were available in blue, graphite, gold, silver and, again, green.
According to supposed Apple leaker Jioriku, who has previously shared accurate information about Apple products ahead of time, the iPhone 14 will be available in a few new colours: green, purple, blue, black, white, red, and purple.
