President Bola Tinubu has bestowed national honors upon all members of the Super Eagles squad who clinched the silver medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Cote d’Ivoire.
In recognition of their achievement in the recently concluded competition, each player has been granted a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as a flat.
Despite Nigeria’s pursuit of the country’s fourth AFCON title culminating in a disappointing loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final, the Eagles displayed commendable effort throughout the tournament.
The match saw the Eagles initially taking the lead with a powerful header by William Troost-Ekong in the first half. However, the Ivorian team, led by Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller, managed to secure victory with goals in the second half.
During the reception of the team at the presidential villa in Abuja, President Tinubu honored each member of the silver medal-winning squad with the prestigious Member of the Order of Niger (MON) award.
In his remarks, the president lauded the team for their resilience, sportsmanship, and unwavering spirit, acknowledging their significant contribution in uplifting the nation’s morale through their stellar performance at AFCON.
Subsequently, Nyesome Wike, the Minister of FCT, facilitated the process for the players to claim their allocated plots of land and apartments by providing them with necessary forms to complete.
